Large Hadron Collider

I just got back from standing in the doorway of a presentation on the Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, that I will remember for the rest of my life. Yeah, it was that good.

The LHC is the biggest particle accelerator in the world. My University, my DEPARTMENT worked on it! I get to work on cool stuff like this someday! :D I can’t wait!

Dr. Cheu, from the University of Arizona, gave the presentation on the LHC, and highlighted the ATLAS piece of the LHC which is the piece that the University of Arizona actually built and designed. He gave a whole lot of information about the project, but he did it in plain-man’s terms, which is usually pretty hard for a man of his intelligence.

Because I know I can’t sum up what the LHC is, here is a link to the wikipedia article on it, and below are some pictures.

The LHc from the air. It's HUGE!

  1. Dude. That thing is the end of the world haha. I say this because it reminds me of Half Life… get a crowbar we will end up ripping a hole into another dimension.

  2. Hahahaha dude, that really is like halflife! You know they think we really will find other dimensions and that it actually creates “micro-black holes” when the particles collide too haha… yeah quite possibly the end of the world. I’ll go get the gravity gun out of the basement of the physics building :P
